Built by a parent who got tired of staring at the fridge.

When our daughter was diagnosed with an egg allergy, dinnertime changed overnight. My wife spent hours searching for recipes that were safe, scrolling through blogs, cross-referencing ingredient lists, and second-guessing everything. Most recipe apps don't take allergies seriously — they bury the filters or don't have them at all.

I started using AI to generate egg-free recipes based on whatever we had in the fridge. It worked, but the process was clunky — copying ingredient lists into chat prompts, re-typing allergy info every time, hoping the output was actually safe. I kept thinking: this should just be an app.

So I built one. SpoonScan lets you scan your grocery receipt or snap a photo of what's in your fridge, select your allergy and diet filters, and get meals your family can actually eat. No more guessing. No more searching.

But it's not just for allergy families. SpoonScan is built for anyone who cooks — whether you're vegan, eating kosher, feeding a picky toddler, or just trying to use up what's in the fridge before it goes bad. You can add your own custom filters and ingredients with a tap, so the app works the way you eat, not the other way around.

What SpoonScan Does

• Receipt scanning — photograph your grocery receipt and SpoonScan reads every item, decoding even the cryptic abbreviations stores print on receipts.
• Pantry recognition — take a photo of your fridge, counter, or pantry shelves and SpoonScan identifies the ingredients.
• Allergy and diet filters — gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, vegan, vegetarian, kosher, halal, and more. Select what applies before each search and every recipe respects your filters.
• Kids Mode — age-appropriate recipes for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age kids with safety disclaimers for young children.
• Multi-day meal planning — generate up to 5 days of meals with a consolidated grocery list and Instacart export.
• Voice input — tell SpoonScan what you're in the mood for and get recipes back instantly.

How It Works

SpoonScan uses AI to generate recipe suggestions based on the ingredients you have on hand. Our image recognition identifies foods from photos, and our recipe engine creates meals tailored to your filters and preferences.

Recipes are generated by AI and are not reviewed by nutritionists, dietitians, or medical professionals. We always recommend verifying ingredients for allergies and dietary needs, and consulting a healthcare provider before making dietary changes for young children.

Our Approach to Food Safety

We take dietary restrictions seriously. SpoonScan's filters are designed to exclude allergens and restricted ingredients from generated recipes. However, AI-generated content can make mistakes. Filters help generate better suggestions but do not guarantee accuracy. Always double-check ingredients, especially for severe allergies.
